IHC issues notice to three newsmen in plots case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC)) has issued notices to three local journalists following the hearing of a writ petition regarding the allotment of plots in Islamabad filed by a senior journalist.

The division bench issued these directions during the hearing of a writ petition filed by Ilyas Bhatti about non-transparent allotment of plots to the newsmen in Sector G-14, Islamabad, here on Wednesday.

The bench comprising Justice Muhammad Munir Paracha and Justice Muhammad Ramzan had earlier sought comments from the Secretary, Ministry of Information, and the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation, (FGEHF), Islamabad.

While arguing the WP No 3256/06, Bhatti said that journalists Qaiser Rana, Absar Alam and Hanif Sabir, applied for allotment of category II plots in the year 2004. They were found eligible for the category II plots and were put on waiting list in the year 2005, as they could not meet the age criteria of the FGEHF. They were to be allotted five marla plots in Sector I-15, Islamabad. Those put on waiting list like these were allotted plots in Sector I-15, Islamabad, in November 2006, he added.

However, the review committee of the Ministry of Information allotted one kenal plots to them in Sector G-14, Islamabad, in August 2006. The Petitioner who was senior in age and service and had applied for up-gradation of the plot was ignored, he argued. Ms Shahina Akber, advocate, represented the FGEHF, while Shahid Khokhar argued for the Ministry of Information. Later, the division bench adjourned the hearing till June 29, 2009.
