IG Sindh orders FIR in HR violations, Karo Kari cases

Inspector General Police (IGP), Sindh, Zia-ul-Hasan Khan on Wednesday ordered the Sindh police to lodge FIRs in cases of Human Rights violations, including incidents such as the torture of women, children, and Karo Kari without any delay. He urged that these cases be followed by immediate action against the alleged culprits.

Chairing a high-level meeting of police officers from the entire province at the Central Police Office, Khan ordered the establishment of Human Rights Cells in offices of Regional Police Officers in Hyderabad and Sukkur, warning that strict action will be taken in case of any negligence or delay.

IGP Sindh also issued specific instructions to SPs to tackle the cases before courts with utmost care, complete investigations as early as possible, and to remain extremely careful while forwarding reports submitted to them by subordinates. He also asked the officers to make the intelligence network more vigilant and coordinated in order to meet the heightened security risks. The need for daily briefing and the evaluation system was underscored by the IGP Sindh.

Khan also directed proper and effective training to Bomb Disposal Squad officials, allowing a special “High Risk Allowance”, equivalent to 60 per cent of the basic pay to officials working in the squad.

In order to combat crimes, IGP Sindh ordered officers to take effective measures for the security of foreigners working on projects of national importance. With the intention of bringing in financial discipline, the IGP ordered that salary be paid to officials only through banks.

The meeting was attended by CCPO Karachi; Azhar Ali Farooqui, Range Police Officer (RPO) Hyderabad; Salahuddin Baber Khattak, RPO Sukkur; Bachal Sangri, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Special Branch; Fayyaz Ali Khan, AIG Investigation; Zafar Ahmed Farooqui, as well as DIGs and Senior SPs of all regions of Sindh, including Karachi.
