Iftikhar lauds media role in terror war

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, has said the incumbent provincial government believes in free and strong media and considers it as an important part of a democratic dispensation.

He said the role of media in the war against terror has been tremendous. He expressed these views while addressing a function held here the other day to deliver a cheque of grant-in-aid to Buner Press Club in which the provincial minister handed over a cheque of Rs 1 million.

MNA from Buner, Istiqlal Khan, and provincial Minister for Education, Sardar Hussain Babk, President ANP Buner, Karim Babak, General Secretary, Rahim Zada and Vice President Syed Laiq were also present on the occasion.

In his address, the provincial minister said that keeping in view the growing importance of media in contemporary era, the provincial government had taken unprecedented steps for the welfare of journalists and to facilitate them in carrying out their professional duties. In this connection, press clubs have been established at district level in all the districts of the province, a media colony is being established in Peshawar and the needy journalist are being provided financial aid under the journalist welfare fund; he added.

Touching upon the role of Information department, he said that the department, through media outlets, plays a role liaison between the government and the public adding that the role of the department in this era of media and especially the fast growing electronic media has increased manifold, and hence the provincial government has taken revolutionary measure to make the department enable to coup with the needs of the contemporary age of media revolution.

In this connection, two FM Radio Stations have been established at Peshawar and Mardan and work on the establishment of such FM Radio Stations in all the district is in progress whereas a TV channel is going to be launched very soon under the Information Department, he continued.

Addressing the function, MNA Istiqbal Khan expressed his gratitude to the provincial government for taking keen interest in the development of district Buner.
