Husband kills wife, injures himself to mislead police

By Mohammad Asghar

RAWALPINDI: A man stabbed his wife to death and injured himself in a bid to cover up the crime in New Town area early Monday, officials said.

Raja Gulfraz told the police that he was sleeping in the courtyard of his house while his wife, Nazeeran (40), and five children were asleep inside when unknown people entered the place.

He claimed that the trespassers fatally wounded his wife and when he tried to get hold of the attackers, they also injured him.

Police said with his hands bleedings, the suspect went to Rawalpindi’s Benazir Bhutto hospital, where he told the same story to the medical staff.

But the doctors became suspicious when they noticed that there were no cuts and bruises which the man could have suffered due to offering resistance to the attackers.

The hospital authorities called the police, who reached the health facility and took Gulfraz into custody.

The suspect gave a suspicious statement, as official quoted him as saying that he was disturbed because Nazeeran did not follow his advice.

Gulfraz said he had asked his wife not to come out of the house and not even go upstairs, but she did obey him.

According to the police, the suspect exchanged harsh words with his wife over some issue after Sunday midnight and later stabbed her to death. Nazeeran’s children rushed to her room after hearing screams but could not save their mother.

Raja Abdul Majeed, brother of the deceased, in his statement given to the police said his sister got married around 20 years ago and since the wedlock the couple had been quarrelling over petty issues. “She (Nazeeran) was not even being allowed by her husband to visit us,” Majeed said.
