HRCP’s new chairperson and council elected
LAHORE: Ms Zohra Yousaf and Mr Kamran Arif were elected chairperson and co-chairperson, respectively, of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan on Sunday.
A statement issued by outgoing chairperson Dr Mehdi Hasan said the other elected office-bearers were treasurer: Zafar A Chaudhry; vice-chairpersons: Tahir Husain (Balochistan), Saleema Hashmi (Punjab), Sher Muhammad Khan (Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa), Amarnath Motumal (Sindh).
The other members of the council were: Dr Tahira Kamal, Zahoor Ahmad Shahwani, Nasreen Azhar, Salehzada, Jarar Husain, Shahida Perveen, Asma Jehangir, Hina Jilani, M A Joseph Francis, Nazish Attaullah, Attiqur Rehman, Irshad Chaudhry, Nadeem Anthony, Dr Mehdi Hasan, Abdur Rehman Jan Sarhindi, Munir Ahmad Memon, Ronald DeSoza, Akhtar Husain Baloch, Asad Iqbal Butt,
Dr Muhammad Ali Siddiqui, Ghazi Salahuddin, Perveen Somroo, Badaruddin Somroo and Uzma Noorani.
The elections were conducted by an election commission, headed by Ms Neelam Husain, and Mr M I Khan and Nasar Ali Shah as members.
