HRCP slams Faisalabad killings
LAHORE, July 20: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Tuesday condemned the killing of two brothers in Faisalabad police custody and urged the government to end violence against minorities.
In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, HRCP Chairperson Dr Mehdi Hasan said Sajid Emmanuel and Rashid Emmanuel were assassinated when they were being taken to the court in police custody in a case registered against them under the blasphemy law.
“It is also a reflection on the state’s obligation to protect lives of all citizens. The assassination of the two Christian brothers and subsequent riots are neither unpredictable nor tolerable,” he said.
Hasan said that Monday’s incident in Faisalabad raised many questions about the security provided to the victims. He demanded that the government arrest the killers and take them to the task.
