‘Hotel Propaganda’ rules on second day of Napa festival

The musical play ‘Hotel Propaganda’ from Germany was staged for a second night at the National Academy of Performing Arts (Napa) on Friday evening.

The play was first staged on the opening night of the International Theatre and Musical Festival but, even on the second night, it drew large crowds.

The hotel is supposed to be a place created by love. All come to stay here, a place that seems to have no exit and time seems to stand still. It is a play with minimal sets and dialogues. It is all music of the avant-garde kind.

The characters dance and wriggle and wiggle but it is all part of the fun. It is also a rare display of calisthenics and the cast just dance to the music of the avant-garde kind for a long 90 minutes.

It was highly creditable that they fluently remembered the dance movements in the minutest detail for all that duration and did not fumble. The hotel is supposed to be a place where you can check in but never leave.

At many junctures, one felt that the characters had managed to aptly personify love and all the noble things that go with it.

All the cast members executed their roles really adeptly. Their acting was very natural, natural enough to make a hilarious comedy of the whole show.

Famous names from Karachi’s theatre world like Joshinder Chaggar, Erum Bashir, Shabana Hassan, just to mention a few, were all part of the cast which entertained the citizenry to a hilarious show.
