Hearing in APNS plea on 28th

ISLAMABAD, April 24,2005: The Supreme Court will resume hearing of a review petition filed by the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) against the Seventh Wage Board Award for newspapers employees on April 28. A three-member bench – comprising Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Rana Bhagwandas and Justice Falak Sher – will resume hearing the case, which has been pending for some time. At the last hearing, the apex court had adjourned the case for two weeks on the ground that counsel for the APNS Abdul Hafeez Pirzada was suffering with a soar throat.

Moved by 25 petitioners, comprising the owners of different newspapers, the APNS petition is against an earlier Supreme Court judgment which, through a unanimous order, dismissed its petition against the Seventh Wage Award.

In the review petition, the petitioners have contended that certain errors of law in the order of dismissal of their earlier petition justify a review of the order.
