Harassing rape complainant: Judge punishes SI in courtroom

GUJRANWALA: District and Sessions Judge Sohail Nasir on Monday made a sub-inspector to stand in the courtroom with his arms raised for two hours and then got him arrested for patronising the five accused in a rape case and pressurising the complainant to reconcile with the alleged offenders.

According to the FIR, Dilawar, Fakhar, Sohail, Moon and Shahid of Kot Mirza Wahando gang-raped ‘G’ of the same village when she was alone in her house. The police registered a case against the accused on Aug 12, 2009, on the report of victim’s mother Miraj Bibi.

However, investigation officer SI Muhammad Ishaq, instead of arresting the accused, started pressurising the complainant to withdraw the case.

The complainant moved the court and pleaded that the police were threatening her daughter and other family members with dire consequences if they did not reconcile with the accused and kept pursuing the case.

The judge summoned accused SI Ishaq and ordered him to keep standing in the courtroom with his both arms raised. After about two hours, the judge summoned Civil Lines police and got the SI arrested after registration of a case under Police Order 2002.

ATC: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Monday declared notorious criminals Asif alias Wado and his accomplices absconders and ordered police to arrest them as soon as possible.

Naushehra Virkan police arrested Tariq Mehmood, Zahid, Imran Virk and Amin alias Chando about a month ago following their involvement in kidnap for ransom and other heinous crime.

The arrested outlaws, who were later killed in an encounter, during investigation informed the police of their accomplices Asif alias Wado, Raza Hamid, Munir and Gulfam. The police registered a case against the outlaws but had failed to arrest them.
