Hameed Zaman passes away

KARACHI: Hameed Zaman – a noted journalist and renowned art critic who died in the early hours of Sunday , was laid to rest at Gabol graveyard here.

He was well-known and highly respected throughout the journalistic community and especially in the art circles of Pakistan. His career started from Radio Pakistan. Later on, he joined the Morning News and then The News, as Art and Culture Consultant and Adviser. He created a special niche for himself and helped to establish a special art and culture section of the newspaper. He created awareness of art-related activities among younger generation.

Mr. Zaman was considered a well informed and a naturally-gifted person having an insight into various facets of art-technique, Urdu and English literature, stage play, poetry and cinema.

Hameed Zaman was educated at the universities of Allahabad and Lucknow. He migrated to in the early 50s and joined Radio Pakistan where he later became programme director and helped to promote the institutions in various fields, especially the fine arts section. He was a thorough gentleman, soft spoken, courteous and led an unassuming life.

May his soul rest in peace and may Allah grant fortitude to the bereaved family.
