Govt working for women welfare: Saeeda

HYDERABAD – The Sindh Minister for Women Development and Social Welfare Dr. Saeeda Malik on July 22, announced that the Gender Reform Action Plan (GRAP)meant for women empowerment, would be implement after its approval in the next meeting of orovincial cabinet.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is assisting the provincial government in this plan which covers the issues related to women from political to economical epmpowerment to the women of the province, the minister said this, while addressing a news conference,at hyderabad press club. After her visit to women prison and Darul Aman,she said that this is her maiden visit after assuming the charge of minister for women developmentand Social Walfare Department, as addressing the women problems is the formost priority of the present government .She vowto work in the utmost interest of women folk. Dr. Saeeda said Malik said that conditions in the Darul Aman and women prison were satisfactory adding there was a need for improvement of every deparment, as she discussed the issues in the confidence with the women and girls in prison and Darul Aman.

She said that the provision of vocational training in the prison and Darul Aman aimed at ecoomical empowerment of women in the province. While quoting the example of work done for promoting the women folk, she said that a sales and display centre was established in Karachi, where different items made by women from interior minister Sindh would be displayed to help the women financially. She said that a Day Care Centre was established in Karachi, where office going mothers could leave their children for the care of their children for easy working in the offices.

Inorder to address the problems of women, she announced that Woman Complaint Centres would be established in each district of the province, as the Pilot Project of Centre Karachi remained successful. While pointing out the GRAP, Dr. Saeeda Malik said that the plan was tabled in the tenure of former chief minsiter Sardar Ali Muhammad Maher and would be finalized in the upcoming Cabinet meeting for its implementation shortly. She said that the Day Care Centres would be displayed in all districts of the province soon. “I have directed the concerned official to estalished a Darull Atafal (centre for destitute children) for girls in the building of Darul Aman”‘ Dr. Saeeda said adding there was no centre for girls in the district.

She ordered the completion of Darul Atafal by the next month and said that efforts were also underway to prvide better facilities to the disabled persons in the provinces in collaboration with Bait-ul-Mal department. Executive Distirct Officer (EDO) Community Development, Muhammad Ibrahim Qureshi andother officials concerned were also present on the occasion.
