Govt promises action: beating of journalist
ISLAMABAD — The government on July 12 assured the Senate as well as journalists that it would act sternly against Environment Ministry Deputy Secretary Asif Rehman for beating Saima Zahoor, a journalist, at his office.
Federal Communication Minister Babar Khan Ghauri and State Minister for Law and Justice Raza Hayat Hiraj assured the house that the government would get First information report (FIR) registered against Mr. Rehman.
The press gallery walked out to protest the beating of Ms. Zahoor who is a reporter for Urdu daily Express. The treasurer and opposition voiced their concern on the incident and demanded the government act sternly against Mr. Rehman and suspend him till an investigation was completed.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s Ishaq Dar raised the issue and asked the government to ensure respect or working women in society.
