Government to welcome positive criticism from journalists: Khosa

LAHORE (April 20 2008): Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa has said that government will welcome positive criticism and guidance from journalists. He said that violation of merit in appointments during the last eight years has jeopardised the entire system and made the concept of good governance an illusion.

Collective efforts are needed to put the system on the right track, he added. He was talking to President Lahore Press Club, Mohsin Goraya, here Saturday. Vice President of Lahore Press Club Imran Yaqub, former President Punjab Union of Journalists Jalil Hassan Akhtar Raja and Assistant Secretary General PFUJ Hamid Nawaz were also present on the occasion.

The Chief Minister said that a present government was determined to resolve the problems created for the people during the last eight years. He said that competent, hardworking and dedicated people are needed to reform the system and the government will bring forward such persons who would deliver the goods in accordance with the desires and aspirations of the masses.

He said that growing problems and hardships of the people resulted as a catalyst for change through vote and the press played a positive and effective role in this regard. In reply to a question, the Chief Minister said that formation of a like-minded group in Q-League does not mean that we should ignore such workers and colleagues who suffered at the hands of Q-League during the last eight years.

He said that all important decisions would be made on merit and principle rather than liking and disliking. The delegation apprised the Chief Minister about activities of ‘Qabza Group’ in Journalists Colony Lahore. They further requested the CM for making order for quick completion of development work in the colony.

The Chief Minister said that a meeting of relevant departments would be called in a week to sort out the issue pertaining to Journalists Colony. Khosa appreciated sacrifices of journalists for democracy in he country on the occasion.
