Government target of ‘TV politics’: Zardari

KHAIRPUR: President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday announced that next general elections will be fair, free and impartial and these will be held on time. Addressing workers of Pakistan People’s Party here at the residence of PPP leader Manzoor Wasaan, in D.G. Kot area, the President said, “I want to make promise with the people that the next elections will be held on time and these will be fair, free and impartial.”

The President said the PPP believed in democratic system and never used back-doors to come into power, therefore, it would depend on power of the masses and come into power with their support through fair, free and transparent elections. President Zardari, who especially went to meet the workers of the party in this remote area of Sindh, said PPP never believed in rigging the elections and assured that all efforts would be made ensure fair and free elections without any element of rigging.

He said the PPP always believed in the politics of democracy and never used back-door to come into power. The President said PPP had a strong and everlasting link with the masses, which always extend their full support to the party to win the elections.

He said the same strong bond of friendship between PPP and the masses would remain intact and with their support, the PPP would again win the next elections with majority. Referring to the criticism of the people on the present government, the President said, “There has been conspiracies against our government but we have faced them with dedication and the support of the masses.”The President said, the present government is being targeted through “TV politics” and some elements just criticize the government without any justification in the talk’s shows at the TV channels.

Asif Zardari said, “We are satisfied with our performance and getting the support from the masses.” He said despite international economic crisis and effects of economic meltdown, the economy of Pakistan made progress during the tenure of the PPP government.

President Zardari said, “The country is now self-sufficient in food and exporting wheat as it was importing wheat when the PPP came into power four and half years ago.”

The President said he knew that the people are facing problems like shortage of water, electricity and jobs but assured that the government has taken a number of steps which would resolve these problems in near future.

Referring to Benazir Income Support Programme, the President said the BISP aim and objectives were to help the needy and empower the women so that they could lead honorable life.

He said with the support from the BISP, the women of the poor families were playing important role by supporting their families. The President said the government provided jobs in the public sector but due to limited resources, the problem of unemployment could not be resolved, therefore, the government had decided to increase industrialization to create more jobs for the unemployed persons.

Referring to the sacrifices of the PPP, the President said the leaders of the party, sacrificed their lives for the country to ensure progress and prosperity of the people of this country.

He said he had to face imprisonment for eleven years and despite having chances to get out from the jail through compromises, he preferred to remain in prison. The President said he never compromised on principles therefore, he preferred to remain in the prison.

President Zardari said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was asked by many world leaders not to go to Pakistan, but she preferred to come to Pakistan to support the rights of the people of this country and gave her life for the people and democracy. He said before leaving for Pakistan, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto told him “People of Pakistan are waiting for her” therefore she decided to come to Pakistan where she scarified the life for democracy.

Commenting on the politics of the Punjab, the President said, with the support of the masses, the next Chief Minister of the province will be from Pakistan People’s Party.

He said the PPP made sincere efforts to stabilize the democratic system in the country and even in the Punjab, following the previous elections. The President said now he would remain in Lahore and other cities of the Punjab to have close and direct contact with the workers of the party and people of the Punjab. He said being President of Pakistan, he had to focus on the regional and international issues as Pakistan was an important country and playing a vital role in regional and international affairs.

The President said he was the follower of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and had been following the mission of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. The President started his address with the workers in Sindhi and had frank and candid discussion with them.

He mixed up with the workers of the party and exchanged views with them on various issues. The President also met with the members of national and provincial assemblies of the area and discussed the problems of the people with them.

He asked the elected representatives to remain in touch with the people and supervise the development projects so that the people could get all the basic needs of life at their doorsteps.

The President also directed the elected representatives to have close liaison and interaction with them to strengthen democratic process.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and PPP leader Manzoor Wasan also spoke on the occasion and briefed the President about the progress on the development projects in the area.
