Government issues Local Government Ordinance notifications
Karachi: The Sindh government issued four notifications on Saturday for implementing the Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance-2012 under which metropolitan corporations have been constituted in the five districts of the province.
According to sources privy to the Local Government Department affairs, the metropolitan corporations would start functioning in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas.
According to another notification, 18 municipal towns in Karachi have been revived, while district councils would be functioning in the rest of 18 districts of Sindh.
In four other districts where metropolitan corporations have been established, the Taulka municipal administrations there had been upgraded as town municipal administrations. Five revenue districts would be retained in Karachi, however, the metropolis would be considered as a single metropolitan city.
It has been decided that the government funding would be enhanced to the five metropolitan corporations for running their affairs till the finalisation of new National Finance Commission Award.
The administrators to head five metropolitan corporations in the province would likely be appointed in the coming week.
