Government increases seats of minorities in assemblies

KARACHI: Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla has said that no seats for minorities were increased in the National and Provincial Assemblies in regimes of dictatorship, however, present democratic government realising the issues of minorities had approved increase in seats for minorities through a constitutional bill. This he said while talking to a delegation of minorities here at his camp office on Sunday.

He said that it was really good that Federal Cabinet had approved a constitutional bill and through this bill number of minorities seats in National Assembly would be 14 instead of 10 in Sindh Assembly, 12 instead of 9 in Punjab Assembly 10 instead of 8 in KPK Assembly and 4 instead of 3 in Balochistan Assembly, he noted. The Sindh minister said increase in number of seats for minorities will help reduce the problems of minorities. This measure of Pakistan People’s Party has brought a wave of joy among minoritios, he added.

Chawla said that the opponents of Pakistan People’s Party would get a bitter defeat in general elections. People of Pakistan were with Pakistan People’s Party, he said. While condemning terrorists attack at Peshawar Airport, he said that for peace and prosperity we would have to work together and the government would foil the nefarious motives of anti state elements.
