Glowing tribute paid to Dr Nizami

AHMEDPUR EAST: Rich tribute was paid to veteran and legend of journalism in Pakistan and Chairman Nawa-i-Waqt Group of Publications late Dr Majid Nizami at a condolence reference held here in a local mosque.

Earlier, Quran Khawani was held for the departed soul.

The ceremony to pray for the rest of departed soul and pay glowing tribute to the true ideological and patriot Pakistani Dr Majid Nizami was arranged by Zaheer Azam Jiraal, Mirpur-based Special Correspondent of Daily Nawa-i-Waqt, (sister organisation of Daily The Nation) at local Jamia Mosque Maulana Abdul Hakeem. The city elite representing all segments of civil society including journalists, academicians, lawyers, members of the business fraternity, serving and retired public servants and others attended the condolence reference.

Mirpur University of Science & Technology (MUST) Vice Chancellor Dr Habibur Rehman presided over the reference whereas former AJK minister and sitting Member of Legislative Assembly and President Jammiat-e-Ulema Jammu & Kashmir Sahibzada Attiqueur Rehman Faizpuri was the chief guest on the occasion.

Prominent among others who graced the occasion included eminent seasoned Kashmiri journalist and The Nation correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao, PPP AJK leader Ch Muhammad Sideeque, former AJK CUJ president Muhammad Ramzan Chughtai, former Senior Vice President AJK Newspapers Society Khalid Chaudhry, senior journalists including Raja Habib Ullah and Sajaad Ahmed Jiraal, Director Sports AJK Raja Kaleem Ullah Khan, retired Divisional Commissioner Raja Fazalur Rehman, Chairman Jammu Kashmir Human Rights Commission Humayun Zaman Mirza and others.

Paying rich tribute to late Majid Nizami for his life time services as the valiant custodian of the ideological frontier of Pakistan, a true patriot and the pioneer and promoter of healthy journalism in the country, speakers including the chair – Dr Habibur Rehman, MLA Sahibzada Attiqueur Rehman, Maulana Muhammad Aslam Naqshabndi, columnist KD Chaudhry and the host Zaheer Azam Jiraal said that late Nizami sahib was a great national asset who spent his whole life for the promotion and safeguard of ideology of Pakistan.

Speakers eulogized Dr Majid Nizami for his selfless contribution towards uplifting the lives of the downtrodden and deprived segments of Pakistani society.

Speakers continued that Majid Nizami was a bold and courageous icon of healthy journalism and staunch promoter and custodian of freedom of press and speech in the country. “His contribution towards promotion of positive journalism in country has no parallel”, they observed.

Speaking on the occasion, the MUST VC lauded that Dr Nizami’s contribution towards Pakistan Movement would be remembered for ever. He underlined that Dr Nizami always took strong stand for protection and promotion of ideology of Pakistan.

“In Ahmedpur East, the National Press Union in a condolence reference chaired by its President Ehsan Ahmed Sehar condoled the death of publisher/editor-in-Chief of Nawa-e-Waqt Group of Publications Dr Majid Nizami. It was attended by journalists from different areas and correspondents of national dailies, TV channels and news agencies besides presidents of four press clubs. NPU President Ehsan Ahmed Sehar while addressing the meeting termed Majid Nizami’s death a great and irreparable loss for Pakistani media as he was towering figure and bold and dedicated Editor who served the journalism more than seven decades and never compromised on principles. He paid rich tribute to Dr Nizami for his services which he rendered for the supremacy of two nation theory and democracy in the country.

Other participants including Shahid Bashir, Mazhar Rasheed, Salman Farooqi, Tanveer Bukhari, Hameedullah Aziz, Habib Maral, Rana Muhammad Qasim and Shahid Ali said that Majid Nizami was the torch bearer of press freedom who never bowed before military and civil dictators. They also lauded his role in the establishment of Aiwan-e-Iqbal and Aiwan Quaid-e-Azam. The participants also offered Fateha for the departed soul and prayed that May Almighty Allah rest the departed soul in eternal peace.
