Girls school blown up in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: Militants blew up a girls school in Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda district on Saturday night, official sources said.

The sources said that explosive devices planted by militants in the Government Girls Primary School at Ghalji Koroona in Shabqadar tehsil went off at 2 a.m. As a result, two rooms were destroyed while another room and veranda were partially damaged.

Following the blast, the police and bomb disposal unit (BDU) reached the blast site and collected pieces of evidence. An official of BDU said that six kilograms of explosive material had been used in the blast.

About 245 girls students are enrolled in the school. Meanwhile, talking to reporters by phone from an undisclosed location, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan spokesman Mukarram Khurasani claimed the responsibility for the explosion.
