Girls clinch top three positions in SSC exam

KARACHI: Girls outshined boys by clinching first, second and third positions in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Part-II (Class X), Science group, annual examinations-2011 whose results were announced on Monday by the Board of Secondary Education Karachi.

The overall pass percentage stood at 73.92per cent.

The results have been declared 14 days earlier before the deadline fixed by the Sindh education department`s steering committee.

Hira Shaikh (Roll No.429659), daughter of Muhammad Iqbal Shaikh1, belonging to the Usman Public School (Campus VI) in North Nazimabad, bagged first position by securing 803 (94.47 per cent) out of 850 marks while Ammara (Roll No.437747), daughter of Iqbal Ahmed, got second position with 799 (94pc) marks. She is a student of the Progressive Public Secondary School, Faran Society.

Third position was secured by Samar Sajid (Roll No.438423), daughter of Sajid Hasan, who got 796 (93.65pc) marks. She belonged to the Shaheen Public School, Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Results statistics showed that of the total 126,556 candidates (71,866 boys and 54,690 girls) appeared in the examinations, 93,545 candidates (52,228 boys and 41,317 girls) were declared pass in different grades.

A total of 13,626 candidates (5,181 boys and 8,444 girls) obtained Grade A-1, 23,282 candidates (11,416 boys and 11,866 girls) secured Grade A, 27,960 candidates (15,660 boys and 12,300 girls) got Grade B, 21,578 candidates (14,299 boys and 7,279 girls) secured Grade C, 6,636 candidates (5,292 boys and 1,344 girls) secured Grade D while 105 candidates (96 boys and nine girls) got Grade E.
