Girls clinch top positions in HSSC exams

ISLAMABAD: Girls outshone boys in the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC Part-II) examination held this year by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) by bagging top positions in all the five groups.

The result announced by the board on Thursday showed improvement in overall pass percentage that stood at 79.43 per cent compared to last year’s percentage of 78.74 per cent.

Out of 35,584 students who appeared in the examination, 28,265 were declared successful and 1,539 secured A-1 grade.

The overall pass percentage of girls, both regular and private, in all the five groups was significantly higher than that of boys.

According to the result statistics, girls’ success rate was 92 per cent in pre-medical and pre-engineering, 88.44 per cent in general science, 96 per cent in commerce and 86 per cent in humanities.

The success rate of the boys was 88 per cent in pre-medical, 87 per cent in pre-engineering, 77 per cent in general science, 84 per cent in commerce and 66 per cent in humanities.

According to the statistics of last 10 years, students’ interest in commerce group has increased.

The number of students appearing in this group increased from 862 in 1996 to 3,920 in 2009, while 3,298 students appeared in 2008 and 2,666 students in 2007.

These years also saw an upward trend of students for pre-medical and pre-engineering groups.

According to the result, Iqra Ejaz of the ACME College of Excellence Faisalabad Road, Sargodha, secured first position by obtaining 1,030 marks in pre-engineering group, while Syed Ali Hasnain of Fauji Foundation CollegeBoys, New Lalazar, Rawalpindi Cantonment, got second position with 999 marks and Zeeshan Mahmood of Fazaia Inter-College Munir Road, Lahore, stood third with 992 marks.

In pre-medical group, all top positions were bagged by the students of Army Public SchoolCollege for Girls, 208-Humayun Road Rawalpindi.

Fatima Ayaz of the institution clinched first position by obtaining 1,017 marks, while Aima Tariq stood second with 1,013 marks. Zahabia Khalid and Amna Amer shared third position in the group by obtaining 1,005 marks.

In science general group, Ayesha Afzal of F.G. College for Women, Kashmir Road Rawalpindi, secured first position by getting 997 marks. Mohsin Mustafa of F.G. Sir Syed College, The Mall Rawalpindi, came second with 974 marks while Wardah Naseer of F.G. College for Women, Kashmir Road Rawalpindi, stood third with 971 marks.

In commerce group, Hamida Shams of the Islamabad Commerce College for Women, F-10/3, Islamabad clinched first position with 920 marks, while Uzma Raj of the Punjab College of Information Technology, G-6/1, and Islamabad, stood second with 911 marks. Shazdah Gul of the Punjab College of Commerce Peshawar Road, Rawalpindi, came third with 905 marks.

In humanities group, Zahida Noreen of the Pakistan Education Center, Doha, Qatar, got first position by obtaining 892 marks, while Almas Javed of F.G. College for Women, Kashmir Road Rawalpindi, and Rabia Tariq of Askari College Girls Campus Sarwar Road, Saddar Rawalpindi, shared second position with 880 marks. Samreena Naeem of the PAEC ModelCollege for Girls Chashma, Mianwali, stood third with 876 marks.

According to a notification issued by the FBISE, as many as 24 unfair means cases were reported this year and all of them had been decided.

The students seeking rechecking of their papers have been directed to apply within 30 days of declaration of the result.

The Higher Secondary School Certificate supplementary examination will commence from October 3, the notification said.
