KASUR: A factory worker raped a 10-year-old ‘colleagueÂ’ girl here on Friday night at a private weaving unit in the limits of Raiwind Sadar police station.

Reports said the girl was working in a private weaving factory at Glamour Adda in Raiwind. On Friday night, when she went to the washroom in the factory, accused Rafiq and Ramzan chased her. Later, Rafiq (22) overpowered the girl inside washroom and allegedly raped her while Ramzan waited outside for his turn. However, the cries of the victim raised an alarm and the accused along with his accomplice fled the scene, leaving her critically injured.

The victim’s mother, who also works in the same factory, along with some other workers, rushed her to the Social Security Hospital in the factory van but did no disclose the actual incident to the hospital authorities. The doctors referred the victim to the Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, owing to her critical condition.

At the Jinnah Hospital, the factory owners again concealed the rape and got the victim admitted there. However, as the doctors came to know about the girl’s condition, the hospital authorities informed Raiwind Sadar police of the crime.

After recording girl’s statement, SHO Tariq Khan, heading a police party, raided the houses of both the accused and arrested them. Police have registered a case. Source said the factory owners in violation of labour laws employed underage girls on lower wages who come to the factory along with their parents to add to their family income. As many as 50 female workers, including underage girls, work at the factory in two shifts.
