Girl pays for kin’s crime

OKARA: A leg and the tongue of a girl were chopped off for the ‘crime’ his brother-in-law committed by contracting a court marriage with a girl, much to the opposition of her father. Reports said Yasin of village 53/2-L had tied the knot with Yasira some time back against the will of girl’s father Munir.

On Thursday, Munir along with accomplices Faqir Husain, Mushtaq, Javed and 10 others kidnapped the brother and sister-in-law of Yasin from their house.

The abductors later trussed them up with a rope and cut a leg and the tongue of the girl and also injured her husband.

The Sadar police have registered a case.

PROTEST: Traders observed a strike and staged a rally in protest against the loadshedding here on Thursday.
The rally participated in by sacked industrial workers, daily wagers and citizens were led by Anjuman-i-Tajiran office-bearers. They shouted slogans against the government and Wapda authorities.

At about 10am, the people started gathering at Gole Chowk from where they brought out a biggest rally that took a round of the entire city. They also burnt tyres at almost every intersection.

The protesters also blocked the railway track near the 4-L canal and the Khyber Mail, going to Karachi, was halted at the outer for about 30 minutes. Police reached there and got the track cleared.

Later, protesters reached the western end of the city bypass and blocked the GT Road.

The traders threatened to block the railway track and the GT Road daily if the unscheduled loadshedding was not discontinued.

Meanwhile, the district bar also observed a strike against the prolonged loadshedding.
