Gilani approves Rs30 million for each Fata MNA

ISLAMABAD: As Fata legislators reassured their complete support to the government, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Thursday approved provision of Rs30 million for each MNA representing tribal areas for identification of public welfare projects which should directly benefit the common man in Fata.

The prime minister met a delegation of Fata representatives at the PM House in which he also accepted the demands of the Fata legislators for the construction of Fata House in Islamabad. The premier announced that he would himself lay down the foundation stone at the earliest.

At one hand the official economic managers are paining a gloomy picture of the country’s monetary state of affairs, on the other the prime minister the other day laid foundation of lavish residential flats for parliamentarians, and now he gave assurance for another multimillion Fata House in the federal capital.

Gilani also asked the Fata legislators to work out the details of specific projects along with their exact financial implications.

He assured the Fata delegation that the government would streamline the procedure of prompt disbursement of funds for the development projects of Fata region.

He stressed upon the MNAs to extend complete support to the government with respect to eradication of Polio from Fata. He asked them to create awareness among the people about this fatal decease affecting the children in the area.

He further assured that he would direct the financial team of the government to brief the Fata MPs on the financial situation and due consideration would be accorded to their proposals.

The leader of Fata delegation, MNA Haji Munir Khan Orakzai, said the elected representatives from Fata had supported and would continue to support the government on its efforts to improve conditions of the people in backward areas.

He specifically appreciated the prime minister’s initiative for development of the backward areas in DG Khan.

The delegation asked for timely disbursement of funds allocated for various projects in Fata and to streamline the system for release of funds.

The delegation included Minister for Environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi, Minister of State for Postal Services Abdul Raziq, Senator Engr Rashid Ahmed Khan, Senator Haji Khan Afridi, Senator Hafiz Rasheed Ahmed, Minister Noorul Haq Qadri, and MNAs Sajid Hussain Turi, Jawad Hussain, Muhammad Kamran Khan, Shaukatullah and Zafar Beg Batanni.

Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Food & Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
