Geo TV rewards firemen

Karachi: Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Geo TV Network, Zaheer-ud-Din Khan has distributed cheques amount to around Rs560,000 among the 28 firemen who took part in the operation to extinguish a fire at the channel’s office two weeks ago.

During a ceremony which was held in the board room of the Jang Building on Friday, each fireman was awarded a cheque of Rs20,000.

On the occasion, Chief Fire Officer of the fire department of City District Government Karachi (CDGK), Ehteshamuddin thanked the management of the Geo TV network for appreciating the firefighters. He said such steps would help to boost the morale of fire rescuers.

He said this operation was a difficult one as smoke and flames had engulfed the building. He said three fire tenders, one snorkel and 28 firemen took part in the operation.

He also revealed on this occasion that the uniform problem of firefighters has finally been resolved. The chief fire officer said that there is current cash flow problem which is affecting the payment of overtime for fire fighters.

The firemen who were rewarded include: Ehteshamduddin, Toheed-ur-Rehman, Murtaza Ali, Zafar Ahmed, Taj Mohammad, Jafar Ali, Ghulam Yazdani, Muhammad Irfan Hashmi, Muhammad Aslam, Zahid Ali, Mehboob Hussain, Salim Baig, Nazakat Shah, Abdul Waheed, Zahid Hussain, Manzoor Ahmed, Abdul Wahab, Fahim Ahmed, Ghulam Ali, Mohammad Yousuf, Shabbir Mohammad, Mohammad Hussain, Imran Qureshi, Abdul Waheed, Siraj Uddin, Shah Zareen, Inayatullah and Salimuddin.
