KARACHI – The Geo television channel has won electronic media award of the 18th PAA Excellence Awards-2004. The award distribution ceremony would be held in the last week of this month.

This was announced by Mahmood Parekh, Chairman, 18th PAA Excellence Award-2004, at a press conference at a local hotel on June 8. He said out of 270 entries from 18 member agencies, 12 agencies received 28 awards and the highest number of awards, seven, went to Synergy Advertising.

The first PAA Excellence Award was announced in 1984 in order to increase a sense of competition to enable advertising agencies to exert more to enhance their work to produce better designs and to increase the standards of advertising, he added.

He said three well-known professionals M Rashid Zubairi, Iqra University Karachi; Ms Shamein Kazmi, social figure and Zia-ul-Islam Zubairi, journalist and PR expert formed the panel of judges.

He said the special awards for electronic and mass media went to ‘GEO ’ and Nawa-i-Waqt Group for their best performance. Sh Hashmi, Patron-in-Chief, PAA, announced that the award distribution ceremony would be held in the last week of this month in Karachi and Federal Minister Sheikh Rashid would be the chief guest on the occasion.

“Geo brought a revolution in electronic media by telecasting minute-to-minute coverage of events with Urdu translation, that was liked by mostly households as only 5 per cent population of the country understands English,” he observed.

Total 19 categories were included in the competition, which are: Multi Media Campaign, Print Advertising (Colour Advertisements), Print Advertising (Black and white advertisements), Television Advertising (31-60 seconds or above), Television Advertising (15-30 seconds), Corporate Advertising (Print Ad Urdu), Corporate Advertising (Print Ad English), Corporate Advertising (Corporate Brochure), Corporate Advertising (Annual Report), Corporate Advertising (Wall/Table Calendar), Corporate Advertising (Promotional Material), Public Service Print Advertising (Colour), Public Service Print Advertising (Black and White), Public Service Television Advertising (Grand), Public Service Television Advertising (Royal), Point of Sale Material (consumer/trade poster), Point of Sale Material (Medical/Pesticides poster), Outdoor Advertising and Package Design. Royal and Super Awards were given to first five categories.

Those agencies who got the awards included: Synergy Advertising 7 awards, Interflow Communications 4, Paragon Advertising 3, two awards each for Adgroup, Bond Advertising, Evernew Concepts, Mass Advertising, Orient Advertising. While one award each went to Adarts Karachi, Big Bang Communications, Publicis Pakistan and Transworld Advertising.
