Friend confesses to murdering of e-paper journalist

LAHORE: CIA police Friday arrested an accused who had murdered a journalist of an online newspaper.

The accused, the namesake of victim Faisal Qureshi, was his fast friend. Faisal Qureshi was murdered at midnight on October 7 in mysterious conditions at his residence in Johar Town.

Local police registered a case against unidentified assailants on the complaint of his brother Zahid Qureshi. Elder brother of the deceased, Shahid Qureshi, who is also a journalist and lives in Britain, had speculated that Faisal was targeted for his articles in the newspaper.

CIA police interrogated his childhood friend Faisl Hameed Qureshi, a resident of Bund Road. Police claimed the accused had confessed to the murder for money.

The accused said he had lent a motorcycle from Ishtiaq Ahmad which was stolen from Jinnah Hospital. The owner demanded Rs 50,000 for the stolen motorcycle but he could arrange for only Rs 20,000.

For the rest of the money, he planned to kill his friend who lived alone. According to the plan, he killed Faisal Qureshi in his home and fled after stealing his laptop, mobile phones and wallet. The accused paid Rs 15,000 to the motorcycle owner and sold the mobile phones to shops in Gumti Bazaar and Yateem Khana which CIA police recovered.
