SWABI: Five media persons, who are contesting election to the National Assembly and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seats from Swabi district, have pledged that in case of victory they would stay in their constituencies to serve their own people.

Two of them are contesting election on tickets of their respective political parties and the remaining three are independents.

They say that development of their areas and removal of sense of deprivation among people would be their priority.

Among the contestant media persons is Ishfaqullah Khan, son of Maulana Hamdullah Jan – who contested election in 1988 from the then NA-8 from the platform of Islami Jamhoori Ittehad and finished runner-up candidate.

Mr Khan is contesting election on Jamait Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) ticket from NA-12, Swabi-I, and also having the support of Qaumi Watan Party.

Another media person Asad Zaman Sher – son of late provincial minister Sher Zaman Sher – is contesting election on the ticket of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians from PK-34, Swabi-IV.

In his address at Tordher, he appealed to voters to reject the opportunist politicians on May 11.

Shah Wali, general secretary of Swabi Union of Journalists (SUJ), has ‘revolted’ against Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf’s decision on award of ticket to another candidate.

He claimed that when the special transmission line was sanctioned and installation of electricity poles started it was Dildar Khan, PML-N candidate from PK-31, Swabi-I, who approached court and got the work stopped on this project.

He said that that the same candidate was now telling the people that he would work according to their expectations.

Sher Azam Jadoon is contesting election as independent candidate from PK-36, Swabi-VI.

He urged the voters to elect new faces and throw rotten eggs on those who failed to deliver for them during their stay in the previous government. Mohammad Amin, another media person, is contesting election as an independent candidate from PK-31, Swabi-I.

He advised people to vote for honest candidates.
