Five journalists produced before Magistrate

DADU- Dadu police produced the five arrested the other day, before a local magistrate on Friday for obtaining remand.

The journalist community of Dadu condemned the police action and took out a protest in the city. They were also joined in by the leaders of various political and social groups. A statement issued by District Police Dadu on Friday said: “The two groups of Dadu Press Club had been at loggerheads with each other for last two months. Both of them wanted to register a criminal case against each other.”

The statement said that the police did not register any case immediately and referred both the parties to various authorities, including the deputy commissioner Dadu, for reconciliation, but to no avail. It said that due to increased tension between the parties, cases were registered against both on August 31, 2000.

It said that on the complaint of journalist Gullan Khan Bhund, a case was lodged against another journalist, Wali Mohammad Lund with Dadu Police Station. Another case was registered on the complaint of journalist, Wali Mohammad Lund against four journalists Gullan Khan Bhund, Dadan Bhund, Nizam Sheikh and Mian Mohammad Pirzada.

The police statement said in both cases, the complainant and the accused are journalists and both the parties have been arrested as per law. It dispelled the impression that police is biased or supportive to any group. Both the cases would be investigated on merit, it said.
