First music video from Mehrunisa V Lub U released

Since Mehrunisa V Lub U appeared on the radar with its teaser, we have been wondering why it resembles a Bollywood film. We hate to jump to conclusions but there are too many elements in it that remind us of cross-border productions.

The teaser, featuring leads Danish Taimoor and Sana Javed, brings to mind a scene from a typical Yash Raj film particularly because Taimoor is doing Shah Rukh Khan-esque dance moves while Javed is draped in crepe saris in the freezing cold. The latter sequence brings to mind Hindi actors Sridevi or Kajol who have appeared in several such scenes in the nineties and early 2000s.

We later met the cast for an interview and raised this point to which Taimoor replied: “Even if it’s looking like a Bollywood film, so what? Bollywood films do well in this country; we all have grown up watching them so we have similar influences.”

This should put the Bollywood debate to rest in the case of this film but we can’t find it in our heart to do so. It’s not like there’s anything wrong with Bollywood; its just that we desperately need our own, distinct identity.

Coming back to MVLU, the first official video has been released and obviously, our first opinion is that the song doesn’t sound bad, just clichéd and very Bollywood. ‘Tu Hi Tu’ has been penned by the Indian poet and lyricist, Gulzar and has been sung by Indian singer Sukhwinder Singh, who also sang for Anjum Shahzad’s Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai last year. This is perhaps why the Bollywood influence feels so strong. Check it out and decide for yourself.

MVLU is set to release this Eid.
