First corporate varsity launched

LAHORE: The NetSol Technologies Ltd, a multinational provider of IT services, launched the first corporate university of the country on Tuesday.

The NetSol Corporate University (NCU) is the first-ever initiative taken by any corporate entity in Pakistan, focusing on management skills to expand its organisational capability.

Rehmat Ghauri, the founding member of the NetSol Technologies Ltd, and Salim Ghauri, the chairman and CEO of the company, unveiled the plaque with at the its office.

A corporate university is a strategic umbrella, which integrates learning, development and education of people to enable them perform as a team to better serve the company. The first corporate university was the General Electric’s in 1950 and recently such a model for training employees had been adopted by a large number of corporations worldwide.

In 1993, corporate universities existed in only 400 companies while in 2001, the number jumped to 2,000. According to the Corporate University Exchange (CUX), the number will grow beyond 37,000 by 2010, which is more than the number of private universities in the USA.

Speaking on the occasion, NetSol Technologies Ltd Chairman Rehmat Ghauri expressed hope that the university would play a pivotal role in discovering, developing and retaining the talent in the company.

He said the launching of the NCU would not only continually add lifelong value to the human assets at Netsol but it would also raise the image of Pakistan in global IT market.
