FBS plans conduct census of software industry
ISLAMABAD- Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) has prepared a plan to conduct a “Census of Software Industry and Related Services in Pakistan.”
The main objectives of the Census are to ascertain the present status of Software Industry and Related Services in Pakistan and to determine the value of software exports from Pakistan, identify the problems/shortcomings in the infrastructure of this industry and formulate policies conducive to its future improvements.
For this purpose, a meeting was held this month under the Chairmanship of Abu Shamim M. Arif, Secretary Statistics Division in Karachi, which was attended by Senior Officers of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Export Promotion Bureau, Central Board of Revenue, State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Software Export Board, PASHA Venture Chest (Pvt) Limited, Statistics Division and Federal Bureau of Statistics.
The field operations of the Census for collection of data will be launched shortly. It is likely to give a fairly accurate assessment of the strength of Software Industry and Related Services in Pakistan, which has, of late, been receiving priority attention by the government.
