ISLAMABAD: Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) here Tuesday adjourned till June 26 hearing into the writ petition of former chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), Chaudhry Rashid Ahmad.

Ch Rashid Ahmad’s counsel Barrister Wasim Sajjad argued before the court that his client was appointed for a tenure of four years as the post of chairman Pemra is a tenure post. Removal of his client from the post of chairman was based on mala fide as the government wanted to bring its favourites at the slot, he contended.

Other cases related to Pemra include the suspension of show-cause notices to private members, challeng to appointment of Pervez Rathore as acting chairman, validity of Pemra decision imposing 15-day ban and Rs10 million fine on Geo TV, appointment of Pervez Rathore as ex-officio member, contempt of court application against Pervez Rathore for allegedly violating court orders. All these matters have also been adjourned till June 26.

The IHC bench also issued notices to the respondents in the application of Jang Group seeking to become party in challenging appointment of Pervez Rathore as acting chairman Pemra.
