ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist and former staffer of Dawn, Aileen Qaiser, who died on Saturday morning, was laid to rest at a graveyard here on Sunday. She was 60.

Ms Qaiser, who remained associated with Dawn as a feature writer for over 12 years, was the spouse of Islamia University Bahawalpur Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq. She leaves behind two daughters.

Ms Qaiser died at a hospital of burn injuries she sustained in an explosion apparently caused by a gas leakage from a heater at her house in I-8 sector.

Talking to Dawn, Dr Mushtaq said he was in Bahawalpur when he came to know about the incident which took place on Thursday morning. He said one of their daughters was recently accepted in Harvard University and Ms Qaiser had returned after finalising the boarding arrangements for her a few days before Eid.

Before joining Dawn, Ms Qaiser had worked in The Muslim and The News. Staff members at Dawn expressed grief and sorrow over the death of their former colleague.
