KARACHI: Kamran Khan, host of Geo News programme ‘Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Sath’, while presenting his last programme on Geo, said, “I am proud of the fact that I always enjoyed the privilege at Geo/Jang to conduct my shows with full freedom, a freedom which I have also had the privilege to enjoy in print journalism for 20 years.

“Today, I am availing this privilege at Jang/Geo for the last time. Viewers, you are watching the last segment of the last programme of ‘Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Sath’. “I have been associated with Geo/Jang Group for the last 32 years without a day’s interruption. I had looked forward to spending the rest of my career here in this organisation, but that was not to be. This is a historic day of my life, and this is not an occasion to dwell on why that was not to be. All that I want to remember is the love and patronage that I received from the founder and patron-in-chief of the Jang Group, the late Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman, and the trend continued by the chief of this institution today, Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman. A few glitches emerged at the time of Shakil Sahib’s moving to Dubai, but I never felt any lessening of warmth or goodwill that Shakil Sahib has for me. This goodwill and affection is my life’s treasure. Today as I say goodbye to this institution I only want to think about the love and warmth I enjoyed here. Today, along with my millions of viewers and hundreds of thousands of readers, I just want to remember that in the last 32 years I laid a solid foundation of investigative journalism and published over 3,000 investigative reports, some of which became global sensations.

“I conducted show on Geo News right from the day of its inception and managed to carve a niche for myself among millions of countrymen. I cherish the memory of my bond with the viewers through 3,000 episodes of ‘Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Sath’. I want to assure my viewers that the relationship that I have with my viewers would never be severed. In fact, it will be strengthened with the passage of time.

“I would like to make a request. The democracy train is on track in the country. Democratic norms are getting firmly rooted. Strong democracy is the need of the hour, and only a free media can guarantee strong democracy.“I would like to express my best wishes for Geo and Jang management and my friends and colleagues there. I urge them to forgive me for my mistakes.”
