Embassy denies US journalists leaving country
LAHORE- A spokesman of US Embassy in Islamabad has denied Press reports in a in which it was suggested to all US journalists to leave the country following threat warrants from the so-called ‘National Movement for Restoration of Pakistan’s Sovereignty.
The group which kidnapped US journalist Danial Pearl working for daily Wall Street Journal last week had threatened on Wednesday to kill all US journalists based in Pakistan, if they did not leave the country within three days.
Some newspapers on Saturday reported a statement attributing to the US Embassy in which a warning had been issued to all US reporters to leave the country, stay back in the hotels etc.
A spokesman of the US Embassy said there was no such instruction. However, the US Consulate in Karachi had informed the US citizens about a fresh travel warning on Pakistan asking to take extra precaution to avoid any untoward incident.
