Election Commission of Pakistan asks media to provide footage of firing
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked various private TV channels to provide footage of firing in the air by the supporters of by-poll winning candidates on Tuesday. According to the ECP, it has taken serious notice of the firing at the houses/deras of the winning candidates in the recent by-elections.
In this regard, an FIR has been registered against the people who fired in the air in Sialkot and three accused persons have also been arrested and weapons recovered from them. The Punjab election commissioner has also been directed to contact the Punjab chief secretary, and DCOs of the respective cities to lodge FIRs against the miscreants who resorted to firing which caused harassment, fear and injured one person, the ECP said.
It asked the authorities concerned to arrest the miscreants of other constituencies as well. Meanwhile, a meeting of the ECP is going to be held in Karachi on Friday to discuss recent by-elections in Punjab and Sindh, issue of dual nationalities, electoral rolls as well as delimitation of Karachi in the light of the Supreme Court’s judgement.
