Eighth Kara Film Festival deferred
Karachi: The eighth KaraFilm Festival (Karachi International Film Festival 2010) has been deferred; new dates will be announced later, the KaraFilm Society said on Sunday.
The festival was originally scheduled to take place from January 21 to 31 in Karachi. “The prevailing global economic recession and conditions within Pakistan have meant that we have been confronted with a severe cutback in financial support, which has made it impossible to organise the festival in the manner worthy of an international film festival or to the standards expected by our loyal audiences,” the Society said.
“We fully realise that the decision to defer would be a disappointing one both for filmmakers and to thousands of people who were looking forward to the festival in January but, despite our best efforts up until the last minute, the painful decision simply could not be avoided. The decision to defer the Festival has been due solely to the lack of financial resources in a time of rising costs.”
