Eight kidnapped over ‘free-will marriage’

SUKKUR: Five men and three women were kidnapped from Hassan Shar and Tayyab Daudpoto villages in Daharki on Sunday.

It has been alleged that a group of armed people of the Daudpoto community attacked Hassan Shar village and kidnapped a woman named Waziran Shar.

In retaliation, armed men of the Shar community attacked the village of Tayyab Daudpoto and kidnapped seven people, including Attaullah, Shabbir Ahmed, Akram, Fayaz, Riaz, Ms Jamul Daudpoto and Ms Inayatan all Daudpoto by caste.

Two people, Abdul Wahid Daudpoto and Ashiq Daudpoto, were injured in an exchange of fire between the kidnappers and villagers.

The injured were taken to Rahim Yar Khan in critical condition.

A heavy contingent of police was reported to be chasing the kidnappers, but till late in the evening it was not known if the kidnapped people had been freed.

According to local people, four months ago Salma Daudpoto, who lived in the Fauji colony, Daharki, had eloped with Inayat Shar and married him in a Sukkur court.

The marriage sparked enmity between the two communities.

Our Dadu correspondent adds: Two women and a man were kidnapped from Shadi Khan Pahore village in the Pat Gul Mohammad area late on Saturday night.

Over 15 armed men surrounded the house of Ali Sher Khaskheli, opened fire and kidnapped Ali Sher and his sisters-in-law Zubeda and Ms Marvi.

Pat Gul Mohammad police chased the kidnappers and opened fire on them near village Buriro, but the armed men escaped towards Kachho area.

The SHO of Pat Gul Mohammad said that two months ago, Khaskheli tribesmen had kidnapped a woman of the Solangi community from Fareedabad area.

He said that in revenge Solangis had kidnapped two women and a man.

He said that after an encounter with the kidnappers, the women had been freed and police were trying to recover Ali Sher.
