Editors arrested, released after payment to widow
LAHORE: Capital City Police Wednesday arrested Chief Editor Khabrain Zia Shahid and Editor Imtnan Shahid over non-payment of Rs850,000 dues to widow of an employee under Wage Board award.
Both were taken into custody by SP, Civil Lines, Fida Hussain and SHO, Civil Lines. Chairman Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees Nasir Hussain Haideri, on a petition filed by widow Naila Naseer Malik, had passed a decree against the management of Khabrain, Islamabad, for payment of Rs850,000 but despite repeated notices the two did not appear before the court.
The chairman issued their warrants of arrest and directed the chief secretary Punjab and inspector general Police Punjab to produce them before the court after arrest.
Later, they were produced before the court and both gave categorical assurance for payment of dues to all employees under Wage Board award and paid Rs200,000 cash on the spot to the widow and requested the installment of one lakh per month of the remaining which the court accepted and ordered their release.
The husband of the complainant died while he was working at Khabrain Islamabad. The widow had claimed the dues of her deceased husband but the management was not paying the dues despite the court order.
