Editor, reporters granted bail
KARACHI, April 15,2005 (PPI): The District and Sessions Judge Karachi South who had on April 13 issued bailable arrest warrants for the editor of The Star, its printer and publisher and two reporters of the newspaper granted all of them bail on Thursday in a surety amount of Rs 40,000 each.
A private complaint was filed by Anwar Alam, in charge of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s coordination committee, against editor of The Star Kamal Majidullah, its printer and publisher Ghulam Ali Mirza, and Syed Saleem Shahzad and Ralph D’ Cruz, reporters under the Defamation Ordinance XLI of 2002 as amended up to date.
The court had earlier directed the SHO Artillery Maidan police station to serve bailable warrants on all defendants. On April 14, the court granted all defendants bail against a sum of Rs 40,000 per person after they appeared in the court.
