Dr Shama takes oath as first governor of Gilgit-Baltistan
ISLAMABAD: Dr Shama Khalid on Tuesday took oath as the governor of Gilgit-Baltistan at a ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr here on Tuesday.
She became the second woman assuming governorship after Begum Rana Liaquat Ali Khan in the history of the country.
The chief judge Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit-Baltistan administered the oath to Dr Shama, witnessed by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah and federal ministers.
National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza and Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim have congratulated Dr Shama on her appointment as the first governor of Gilgit-Baltistan. In their separate massages to the newly-appointed governor, they expressed the confidence over her leadership and said Gilgit-Baltistan would witness development under her able administration.
