Dr. Firdous terms journalists ears, eyes of society

Islamabad, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the journalists are the eyes and ears of the society, as they play pivotal role in bridging the communication gap between the ruler and the ruled.

He said that the media is playing an effective role in highlighting the public problems and government’s initiatives regarding the public welfare and socio-economic development in the country. She stated this while talking to a delegation of Sialkot based senior journalists which called on her here on Monday.

Senior journalist Abid Hussain Mehdi led the delegation. While, the senior officials of Press Informational Department (PID) and Ministry of Information were also present on this occasion. Federal Information Minister announced to bring the Sialkot based senior journalists to the main stream, enabling them to play their pivotal role more effectively for the national development and prosperity.

She said that the government was also making some effective and positive measures to provide the security of life to the journalists, besides, protecting their rights as well. Dr. Firdous urged the media to play its frontline role in curbing the menace of the anti Pakistan and anti Islam global conspiracies of the Non-believers. She said that the newsmen should criticize the government with positive sense, besides, highlighting the government’s good initiatives in the larger national interest. Federal Information Minister revealed that the government was fully aware of the problems being faced by the newsmen, besides, ensuring the freedom of expression of the media in the country, which is the fourth pillar of the nation. She said that the print and electronic media could play role of a bridge between people and the governmentà .
