Doctor, Mediamen injured in Services Hospital protest

LAHORE- Two media persons and a doctor of the Services Hospital sustained injuries on September 12 as a result of a scuffle over the coverage of medical tests being conducted in the hospital for the applicants for employment in police department.

Around 700 to 800 candidates for the post of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) come to Services Hospital daily to get medical examination. On September12, the candidates staged a protest demonstration against the hospital management complaining that the doctors were asking for bribes while issuing medical examination certificates.

A team of a local television channel City 42 was covering the protest demonstration was attacked by the hospital security staff and management personnel. The security guards led by the hospital doctors snatched camera of the newsman and handed over it to the hospital MS.

Meanwhile, another team of senior newsmen led by Arif Hameed Bhatti former General Secretary of Punjab union of Journalists and Asad Sahi correspondent of City 42 reached the hospital and met MS Services Hospital Dr Javed and asked him to return the camera of the TV channel newsman and take action against the doctors and the security guards for thrashing the reporters. As a result, Asad Sahi, and his fellow journalist sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to the Mayo Hospital, Lahore.

Meanwhile, the administration of Services Hospital Lahore has constituted a high-level inquiry committee to look into the incident on Friday in which Senior Medical Officer Dr Shahid Iqbal Qureshi received serious head injuries.
