Democrats panel wins KPC poll

KARACHI: The Democrats Panel swept the Karachi Press Club elections for 2011 on Saturday.

According to the results announced by the election commission, Tahir Hasan Khan of The News was elected president with 493 votes. His rivals, Khalid Farshori of Akhbar-i-Jahan got 275 votes and Khurshid Abbasi of Daily Awam 203.

Fazil Jamili of Daily Jang was elected vice president with 561 votes, followed by G.M.
Jamali of Daily Express with 292 and Zaheer Ahmed of Dawn with 107.

Moosa Kaleem (521 votes) of Herald was elected secretary. Fahim Siddiqi of Geo News bagged 347 and Shahid Ghazali of Dunya News got 117. M. Arif of Daily Awam was elected joint secretary and Mohammed Anwar Khan of ARY treasurer.

Asif Jiaja, Ghazala Fasih, Hamid Nazir, Noman Rafiq Khan, Shakeel Silawat, Shams Keerio and Syed Shahzad Ali Shah Jillani were elected members of the governing body.
