Workshop for Civil Society Organizations on Working with media (Role of elected representatives, judiciary and media in reducing corruption in the country)
Participants of a PPF Working with the Media Workshop in Rahim Yar Khan were of the opinion that their district topped the list in Punjab in matters of corruption, bribery, and nepotism, both in government offices and elected representatives. They said while cancer of bribery and corruption has now spread in the entire Pakistani society, but it is worst in Rahim Yar Khan district. There is hardly any government or private organization which is immune from this menace; while the citizens have to bear the brunt.

Workshop for Journalists On Media and Democratic Governance
Participants of a three day PPF workshop on Media and Democratic Governance were of the view that unemployment, poverty, lack of social justice, oppressive feudal system and rampant corruption are the real causes behind growing lawlessness and separatist tendencies in Balochistan. They said it was vital to take urgent steps to solve these problems for removal of widespread sense of desperation among the youth in Baluchistan.

In Balochistan province, although there is a network of civil society organizations, but due to rampant corruption and deep-rooted feudal and tribal culture, these CSOs have not be able to achieve great success in achieving their set targets.

Training workshop for Radio Journalists on writing for Radio
Participants in a three day PPF workshop for radio journalists held in Karachi from March 08 to 10 emphasized the commonly held view that in Pakistan, as in most developing countries, radio is considered amongst the most effective mediums of information and entertainment. The government of Pakistan has declared the year 2010 as ‘the year of radio’, and prime minister of Pakistan has announced he will deliver his address to the nation every month on radio.

In Pakistan there are large scale misunderstandings and distrust between NGOs and the media, which could be removed if the two sides develop closer interaction and cooperate with each other on the basis of mutual respect and understanding, observed participants of a three-day interactive training workshop on ‘Working with Media’, organized by Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) for civil society organizations at Rawalakot from March 04-06, 2010.
