LAHORE – Despite the clouds of terrorism in the country, the art fraternity managed to celebrate the International Dance Day yesterday.

Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) Shakir Ali Museum celebrated International Dance Day and paid tribute to the celebrated classical dancer and choreographer Roshan Ara Bukhari yesterday in a ceremony organized at Aiwan-e-Iqbal.

Since 2010 every year PNCA put cultural shows to celebrate intentional Dance Day on April 29 aimed to introduce different ethnic dance traditional and through performances.
In the past, similar tributes were paid to Nahedd Siddique and Nihghat Ch.

On the occasion Principal National College of Arts Dr Murtaza Jaffri, FS Aijazuddin, Punjab University Vince Chancellor Dr Mujhahid Kamran, PNCA Director General Ifthikhar Babar, PNCA Shakir Ali Museum Director Amna Pataudi and large number of students perusing dance in difference performing art institutions were present to commemorate the International Dance Day.

The dance evening was tribute to the Roshan Ara Bukhari who served the dancing fraternity from 1965 to 2012 and made tremendous contribution in the field of arts especially in classical dancing.

PNCA director general Ifthikhar Babar announced on the occasion that he recommended the name of acclaimed and celebrated artist and dancer Roshan Ara Bukhari for the pride of performance award.
“Visual Arts and Performing Arts promotion of both fields of the arts was the mission and vision of the PNCA and we are striving to preserve, protect and promote the cultural activities in the country”, he said.

Amna Paduti talking the participants said that Lahore Arts Council, PNCA, Punjab Arts Council collectively working for the promotion of arts so harmony and peace could prevail in the country and to make Pakistan prosperous.

Roshan Ara now a choreographer for the performing Arts Group, Lahore (PNCA) and training the young girls and boys in the art of classical dance, folk dances and ballets (thematic dances which narrates a story in dance).
Roshan Ara who had passion for the dance also witnessed bleak days for dance and music in Pakistan after 1997 when almost all creative activities faced a bleak future and dance being taboo in those days.

PNCA Ifthikhar Babar said that dance is the significant aspect globally and arts and literature are the cultural-tools elsewhere to bring peace and harmony in society.
He said successful nations used the arts related activities as a tool to shape societies into prosperous.
“We must honour and cherish this international Dance Day as this is our heritage and Lahore being the centre cultural of heritage ought also to celebrate prominently”, he maintained.

Number of performances were presented in the ceremony arranged which geared up dance evening to celebrate International Dance Day with the intentional community the day which celebrated worldwide on April 29.
