ISLAMABAD – The officials of ministries of Interior, Law and Justice, and security agencies have been summoned to reconsider the clause of the Cyber Crime Bill 2015.

Secretaries Information Technology, Interior, Law and Justice, Director General Intelligence Bureau, in-charge National Response Centre for Cyber Crimes, National Coordinator NACTA would attend the meeting called by the sub-committee of National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication.

The meeting, going to be held today (Monday), will discuss the proposals sent by the NGOs, who had objected to some of the clauses of the cyber crime bill, terming them against the human rights.

The bill after heated sessions and deliberations and inputs from all stakeholders was earlier sent back to the sub-committee to revise it.

The stakeholders argue the 13-page draft was different from the original 44 pages, which included suggestions from them for safeguarding the fundamental civil liberties.

Some of the NGOs have opposed the sections 9, 15, 18, 22, 29, which put text messaging and emailing without the receiver’s consent, under a criminal offence.

They also opposed the clause which directs Internet service providers such as cafes, offices and universities to retain data, which, according to them, would result in increasing their operational costs of business.
