CPNE welcomes resolution passed in favour of media

LAHORE: The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) in its executive members meeting held in a local hotel on Wednesday under the chairmanship of President Khushnood Ali Khan has welcomed the recent resolution of Punjab Assembly passed in favour of the media.

The meeting pointed out that the issue related to the media had not been entirely resolved but this could be termed as a first step towards its resolution. Majeed Nizami, Mujib-u-Rehman Shami, Zia Shahid, Sajjad Bokhari, Jamil Athar and other executive members of the CPNE attended the meeting.

Chief Editor Nawai-e-Waqt, Majeed Nizami said that advertisements to the media should be in proportion to the circulation. Newspapers should be give importance for being independent. Senior journalist and editor Mujeeb U-Rehmam Shami on passing of recent resolution of Punjab Assembly said this had somehow resolved the issue. The meeting showed its anguish at the level of indecency and vulgarity in the country and asked for the cable operators to guard the ideological frontiers of the country.
