CPNE pays homage to M A Zuberi

KARACHI: Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) paid homage to the late M A Zuberi at a condolence meeting held at a local hotel on Tuesday. President CPNE Jameel Athar Qazi chaired the reference. Senior editor Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami specially came from Islamabad to attend the programme.

President CPNE Jameel Athar Qazi, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Senior Vice President CPNE Qazi Asad Abid, Secretary General Ilyas Shakir, Joint Secretary Javaid Mehr Shamsi, Finance Secretary Mushtaq Ahmed Qureshi besides others, including Dr Waqar Yousuf Azeemi, Mukhtar Aaqil, Younus Riaz, Anwar Farooqui, Madam Shamim Akhtar, Nasir Baloch, Faisal Zahid Malik, Ghulam Rabbani, Chaudhry Noor Ahmed, Owais Aslam Ali, Usman Arab Sathi, President Karachi Press Club Imtiaz Faran, President Association of Photo Journalists Pakistan Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, President Anjuman Imdadya Faroshan Iqbal Noon and Business Recorder Editor Wamiq A. Zuberi spoke at the meeting.

The CPNE President said that M A Zuberi is not a name of a person, but the name of a movement. Zuberi’s name would live forever in English journalism. He also said the late Zuberi had found a place for himself among the stalwarts of journalism such as Zafar Ali Khan, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Maulana Hasrat Mohani.

Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami said that the late Zuberi “played 90-year-old innings” tremendously and he remained the guardian of nation’s ideology. Business Recorder Editor said that the late M A Zuberi was not only his father, but a friend too, and he guided him at every stage of life. CPNE General Secretary Ilyas Shakir praised Zuberi for his hard work and perseverance.

President Anjuman Imdadya Faroshan Iqbal Noon said that Business Recorder created history in the history of newspapers and periodicals in Pakistan. President Karachi Press Club, Imtiaz Faran suggested that educational and vocational institutions should be named after leading journalists such as M A Zuberi.

Photo journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman said that M A Zuberi had personally presented a copy of Independence Day Supplement of Dawn to the Quaid-e-Azam. Other speakers also paid tribute to the late M A Zuberi and termed him the pioneer of economic and financial journalism in Pakistan. Later, the meeting offered Dua for the late M A Zuberi. Dr Waqar Yousuf Azeemi conducted the programme.
