CPNE demands role in NC

LAHORE – The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) office-bearers have demanded of the government to also include the representatives of this body and that of APNS and other journalists’ organisations in the National Commission (NC) for the flood affected people.

CPNE President Khushnood Ali Khan and Secretary General Amir Mahmood, jointly stated Monday that the inclusion of the journalist representatives would go a long way in ensuring transparency in the use of the aid to be received from the national and international sources.

They said the country today faced the worst situation wrought by the floods which brought about serious miseries to millions of people and the media has to play in these circumstances, its due role to develop harmony, unity and spirit to sacrifice for the affectees.

They also appealed to the media and the mobile companies to cooperate with the government and the nation in this hour of trial.

The CPNE leaders have also lauded the coordination and cooperation between the ruling and the opposition parties for providing help to the flood affectees and added, in this situation, political cohesion and consensus mattered a lot to providing relief to the affectees.

They also pleaded for writing to the international bodies as well as mobilizing the international aid agencies for the help of the flood affected people. They said Pakistani nation has always faced such challenges bravely and with unity and this time too, they would do their best to provide maximum relief to the affectees.
